In 2014/2015 the Colorado Education Initiative invited me to participate in a Design Thinking workshop, and at the end of the workshop I had the opportunity to pitch a project I wanted to work on with kids. I had wanted to get my kids into wearable tech after reading about it as a forecasted trend in the Horizon Report and won a small grant. Enter Meta in the K-12 classroom.
Augmented Reality Periodic Table of the Elements
Over the last two years students have had the chance to work on projects with the Meta and while only one student really buckled down and invested the time necessary to develop with it, the result of his work is a holographic Periodic Table of the Elements that you can reach out and touch. This video shows an original implementation, and the student has iterated to make the user interface a parabola layout and included a modeling feature that shows a simulation of the electrons in 3D. Based on this work we have a Meta 2 inbound to work with.
